Lutron bridge not connecting to WiFi

by DIYSmartHome• 7 replies• 11064 views
Hey everyone, I'm at my wit's end here. I just got a Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge Pro and I cannot get it to connect to my WiFi network for the life of me. I've followed the setup instructions multiple times, reset the bridge, and even tried moving it closer to my router. The LED just keeps blinking and never goes solid. Here's my setup: I have an Eero mesh network running on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The bridge is connected via ethernet to one of my Eero nodes (not the main gateway). I've tried the Lutron app on both my iPhone and my wife's Android phone, same result every time - it finds the bridge but then fails during the WiFi configuration step. I've also verified that my router isn't blocking any ports and I've temporarily disabled my firewall to test. Still nothing. The weird thing is my Philips Hue bridge connected without any issues on the same network setup. Is there something specific about Lutron bridges that requires special network configuration? Should I be connecting it directly to my main router instead of a mesh node? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have 12 switches waiting to be installed and I can't do anything until this bridge cooperates.

LutronFanatic is right. The Smart Bridge Pro is ethernet-only. Your phone needs to be on the same network/subnet as the bridge for discovery to work. With mesh networks, sometimes the nodes create separate subnets which can cause discovery issues. Try connecting the bridge directly to your main Eero gateway with a short ethernet cable and see if that helps. Also make sure your phone is connected to the same Eero node when doing setup.

Wait, the Caseta Smart Bridge Pro connects via ethernet only - it doesn't actually use WiFi itself. Are you sure you're not confusing the setup process? The bridge needs to be hardwired to your router, and then your phone connects to the same network to configure it.

Classic mesh network gotcha! I see this all the time with clients. The Eero system should keep everything on the same subnet, but device discovery protocols can get wonky across mesh nodes.

Oh wow, I feel dumb now. I totally assumed it needed WiFi because the app was asking about network setup. Let me try moving it to the main gateway tonight and report back. Thanks for the quick responses!

Don't feel bad - the setup process isn't super clear about this. Also worth checking: make sure your phone isn't on a guest network or VPN when trying to discover the bridge. That trips up a lot of people too.

One more thing to check - some Eero setups have client isolation enabled by default for security. This prevents devices on the network from seeing each other. You'll want to verify that's turned off in your Eero app settings. Go to Settings > Network Settings and look for anything related to device isolation or AP isolation. If you have Eero Secure, double-check those settings too as they can sometimes interfere with local device discovery.

Update: Connected directly to the main Eero gateway and it worked immediately! Took about 30 seconds to discover and I'm now adding switches. You guys are lifesavers. Turns out it was definitely a subnet/discovery issue with the secondary node.
