Multi-room audio sync with lighting scenes

I'm trying to create an immersive experience in my home where the multi-room audio and lighting scenes work together seamlessly, but I'm running into sync issues that are driving me crazy. Here's my setup: I have a Sonos system spread across 5 zones (living room, kitchen, dining, master bedroom, and outdoor patio) and IxomeAI controlling my Lutron RadioRA 2 lighting throughout the house. What I want to achieve is this: when I activate my "Evening Entertainment" scene, I want the lights to dim to 30% in the living room, kitchen, and dining areas while simultaneously starting a specific playlist across those same zones. The problem is there's always a noticeable delay - sometimes the lights change first, other times the music starts and the lights catch up 2-3 seconds later. I've tried using the scene builder in IxomeAI to combine both actions, but the timing feels inconsistent. Is there a way to add delays to certain commands to get them to land at the same time? Or should I be approaching this differently? I've heard some people use virtual switches or intermediate triggers to help with synchronization. Would love to hear how others have tackled this. Is the slight delay just something we have to live with when combining different ecosystems, or is there a trick I'm missing?

I dealt with this exact issue last year. What worked for me was restructuring the scene execution order. In IxomeAI, send the Sonos command FIRST, then wait 800ms, then trigger the Lutron scene. The Lutron system responds almost instantly while Sonos needs that extra processing time. It's not perfect but gets them within a half-second of each other which feels synchronized to most people.

The delay you're experiencing is pretty common when bridging different protocols. Sonos commands typically take longer to execute than Lutron because of the network overhead. Try adding a 1.5-2 second delay to your Lutron commands so they fire after the Sonos command is sent but arrive at roughly the same perceived time.

Have you considered using a macro instead of a scene? Macros give you more granular control over timing between steps.

Interesting problem! I use a similar setup but with Hue lights instead of Lutron. The timing issues are real - I just learned to accept a small delay honestly.

One thing that helped me significantly was ensuring my Sonos system had a static IP assignment and that the IxomeAI hub was on the same VLAN. Network latency can add unpredictable delays. Also check if your router has any QoS settings that might be prioritizing or deprioritizing certain traffic. I shaved off nearly a full second of delay just by optimizing my network configuration. Additionally, if you're using WiFi for your IxomeAI hub, consider switching to ethernet - the consistency improvement alone is worth running the cable.

Glad you got it working! For future reference, you can also create "pre-stage" scenes that get the Sonos ready a few seconds before the actual trigger, then use a second command to just hit play. Reduces perceived latency even more.
